Maine Oyster Company Portland and Phippsburg

download

Description

We are looking for a few good hands to join The Maine Oyster Company as Shucking Instructors for the 2026 season. This isn't just a service job; it’s about storytelling and education. You will lead enthusiasts through the art of shucking, sharing the grit and beauty of Maine’s aquaculture scene.

Classes take place at our vibrant Portland Raw Bar and our Basecamp location right on the water in Phippsburg.

What You’ll Do
Teach the Craft: Lead small group classes on how to safely and efficiently shuck a Maine oyster.

Share the Story: Act as an ambassador for Maine’s working waterfront, explaining the journey from seed to plate.

Manage the Experience: Ensure guests have everything they need—from the right knives to the perfect pairing—while maintaining a clean, professional workspace.

Bridge the Gap: While your primary role is at our location in Portland - you’ll have the unique opportunity to head out to our Casco Bay farm to learn the ropes and help with the harvest.

What We’re Looking For
The Vibe: Authentic, engaging, and comfortable speaking to groups.

The Skills: While aquaculture experience is a plus, it is not required. We will train the right person on the mechanics of shucking and the science of the sea.

The Schedule: Reliability is key. We’re looking for someone for 20–25 hours a week, with the potential for extra hours as the season heats up.
